Leader: Prof. Andy Hodson, University of Sheffield, UK
Outline:
The purpose of the excursion will be to look at the local freshwater system and its cascade from small cold-based glaciers through major major valleys eroded by an ice stream, and into the fjord. We will discuss the hydrological and geomorphological processes that have fashioned the landscape since the Last Glacial Maximum and that influence the export of water, sediment and nutrients to the fjord. We will also consider the role of permafrost and the implications of ground thaw.
Requirements:
Participants will need outdoor clothing: waterproof jackets, hiking boots.
