The workshop will provide:
- Lecture – major marine habitat division including methods and techniques of studying
- Demonstrations sampling techniques (dredge net, bottom grab sampler, plankton net)
- Laboratory practical session – rough analysis of collected biological samples
Duration: 4 hours, including ~ 1h of theory lecture (marine habitat division, methods and techniques of studying) ~3h practical activities on board, including demonstrations of sampling techniques and work procedures in laboratory (r/v Horyzont)
Key issues:
– Pelagic realm (primary producers, zooplankton)
– Benthic realm (benthic algae, hard and soft bottom communities)
– Food webs and key stone species (fish, birds, mammals)
– Microbial loops and decomposition of matter
Requirements:
Participants will need outdoor clothing: waterproof jackets, hiking boots.
